Si Beckwith is a stand-up comedian and writer from Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Si started stand-up comedy after years of writing creatively, critically while also playing in bands, though with a love for stand-up comedy being the one creative venture he was desperate to start. Call centre jobs slowly chipping away at his soul, he endeavoured to 'give it a go', and got up on stage at Long Live Comedy upstairs at The Dog & Parrott in Newcastle’s city centre (the same stage so many excellent North East acts had started on) in 2012 for his first gig.
He’s gigged regularly and prolifically since those opening days, up and down the country. Si has made sure to hone his craft on all manner of stages, developing into a respected, reliable stand-up comedian who has a creative approach to all he does.
Si has packed plenty in to a relatively short career, first performing at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 in a two-handed show, he’s been back regularly since. He was a Harrogate Comedian Of The Year finalist in 2016. His show ‘Get Lush’ received some excellent reviews in 2019 and 2020 for performances at both Alphabetti Theatre and The Stand, Newcastle.
“Hard hitting at times, but delivered with silliness and in a deadpan manner, Beckwith’s show works because his stories are, mostly, relatable.” - NARC Magazine
A much sought after compère, host, interviewer and warm-up, Si’s effortless ability to inject energy and warmth into a room has gained him plenty of trust of being tremendously adept at holding a show together. He’s interviewed some massive names and some of his heroes over the years too, including Mick Foley, Demetri Martin, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and a lot more besides.
As a podcaster, Si has created The Greatest Film You’ve Never Seen (with Ken McGuinness), Si & Harry’s Mixtape (with Harry Ford) and Grease 2 Is The Word (with Kelly Rickard). All have received thousands of listens and had loyal followings. Pulling in some huge guests for The Greatest Film You’ve Never Seen, and in an absolutely peak moment of achieving ones lifetime dreams, interviewing the writer of songs from cult film Grease 2 for Grease 2 Is The Word.
Si’s also worked as a freelancer programming a remarkably popular cultural events programme for Newcastle Castle, working in audience development for Alphabetti Theatre and as an editor for NARC Magazine. His passion for the arts and the North East, as well as the role the arts plays in community engagement have lead to a strong working relationship with a number of venues and arts projects in the region.
As a writer, Si has written articles for the likes of Buzzfeed, WhatCulture, NARC Magazine, NE1 Magazine, NEVolume Magazine and more. Seeing articles ‘go viral’ for Buzzfeed and WhatCulture and reaching a massive audience with his words.
Si has written and performed in sketches for both radio and stage with writing, acting, sketch writing and script editing all key skills Si has brought to the table for a number of years.
First and foremost though, Si Beckwith loves comedy and loves making people laugh. Si Beckwith loves being a stand-up comedian.
